The International Sea Scout Cup is a sailboat race put on for the benefit of Sea Scouts world-wide. It is a private, invitational event supported by William I. Koch International Sea Scout Cup Assn, Inc. a not-for-profit Florida corporation. It is sponsored by the Long Beach Sea Base operated by the Long Beach Council of Scouting America and the Long Beach Yacht Club. ALL SAFE SCOUTING RULES OF SCOUTING AMERICA APPLY TO THIS EVENT.
All persons both youth and staff must submit an application on line to registrar@seascoutcup.org. You download the application to your computer, complete the fill in form and then attach it to an e mail and transmit it to the registrar or mail it to the registrar. After your application is submitted you will be advised by e mail if you are accepted. Once accepted you have 3 weeks to submit payment and medical form. You must use the event medical form.
This is a drug free event and does not allow the use or possession of alcoholic beverages, tobacco or tobacco products including vaping, drugs of any kind that are not listed on your medical form and approved by the event medical officer. This includes marijuana. Use means use or possession at any time while on event grounds or appearing at the event after use. If you cannot go three days without smoking or using drugs, DO NOT APPLY.
CAUTION TO PARENTS
Parents should be advised not to send persons under 18 years of age to this event without a responsible adult. Long Beach, California, like any big city, can be a dangerous place and your child will only be under supervision from 0730 to the end of the day or approximately 1700 HRS on June 13 and June 14. At night your child will be on their own. While we take every safety precaution, sailboat racing can be dangerous and exposes participants to possible injury by being struck, tossed into the water and struck by another boat, all which may result in serious injury or death.
IDENTIFICATION
ALL COMPETITORS AND STAFF WILL BE ISSUED EVENT WRIST BANDS AND MUST WEAR THEM AT ALL TIMES DURING THIS EVENT. NO WRIST BAND YOU WILL BE EXCLUDED.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE
As a youth competitor you must be able to swim 100 Meters unassisted. You must be an experienced sailor in small sailboats. You must be medically and physically able to engage in strenuous activity. You must have been registered as a Sea Scout no later than January 1, 2027. You must be at least 14 years of age and not have reached your 21 birthday by the first day of the event.
Both youth and adults may apply for staff positions. The primary youth position is Regatta Bosn and Bosn’s mate. But almost all staff positions are open to youth and adults alike.
At this time we are exploring the use of an observation boat to view the races. This is in the planning stages and you will be advised.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT AND DRESS
All competitors must wear a Type I, II or III US CoastGuard approved life jacket and a water type helmet such as used for surfing and kayaking. You may bring your own life jacket but you must wear an issued helmet. If you wish, a life jacket will be provided. The life jackets for competitors cannot be the inflatable type. The life jackets for staff may be inflatable types. You will be issued a rash guard shirt to wear over your life jacket. You must wear this shirt while racing.. If you are a foreign competitor, the life jacket must be U. S. Coast Guard Approved. Life jackets and helmets must be worn at ALL TIMES when on the water. You may wear your choice of racing clothing while racing. However, this clothing may not have insignia or writing on it. You must wear shoes and the foot-wear must be closed toe shoes.
For morning colors and for the awards dinner the dress is Regatta Dress Uniform described below. Uniform for the military including U.S Coast Guard and Merchant Marine, is tropical long. For all others casual business attire. No shorts, T shirts.
STAFF DRESS
For colors and for the awards dinner the uniform for staff is Regatta Dress Uniform. All other times both youth and adult staff will wear the Staff Work Uniform, which consists of black trousers or black cargo shorts, which you must provide, and a Regatta Staff shirt which will be issued to all staff members.
REGATTA DRESS UNIFORM
For U.S. Sea Scouts, the Regatta Dress Uniform consists of a Regatta issued cover (hat) black tar flap, Sea Scout uniform. The tar flap is available through Scouting America National Supply.
For Adult US Sea Scout leaders, the Regatta Dress Uniform is Sea Scout uniform with no neckerchief and combination white cover. White combinational cover is optional.
For all foreign Sea Scouts and Leaders, the Regatta Dress Uniform is the Sea Scout uniform of their respective country in good condition and Regatta issued cover (hat)
WHAT TO BRING

MEALS
You will be provided a sack lunch on Saturday and Sunday and a dinner meal on Saturday and Sunday. No other meals will be provided.
LODGING AND SUPERVISION
THIS IS A SATURDAY – SUNDAY DAY EVENT ONLY WITH NO HOUSING OR OVERNIGHT SUPERVISION. UNITS MUST PROVIDE TWO DEEP LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISE YOUTH OUTSIDE OF EVENT HOURS. There is no lodging provided at this event. Make arrangements with local motels or friends. Parents should be advised that Long Beach California can be a dangerous place at night. Your children should not be roaming about the city after dark. Parents should not send persons under 18 years of age without an adult. If your child is not mature enough to exercise good judgement, then he or she should NOT ATTEND. There will only be supervision from 0730 HRS to the end of dinner each day at approximately 1700 Hrs daily.
TRANSPORTATION
There is no transportation provided. Participants and staff must provide their own transport to and from the event. You may rent a car or take an Uber or cab.
EVENT FEE
The registration fee for competitors for this event is $110. USD. The event fee for staff is $55.00 It must be paid on line by credit card at SEASCOUTCUP.ORG The registration fee provides the competitors with the boats, four meals listed above and trophies. This fee is not refundable, except under unusual circumstances at the discretion of the Event Chairman.
GUESTS AT THE AWARDS DINNER
If parents or friends with to attend the awards dinner on Sunday night, they must register on line and will be charged a fee.
SCHEDULE OF EVENT
The event consists of registration on Friday June 11, 2027 between 1200 HRS and 1700 HRS at the Long Beach Sea Base.
Details regarding racing rules are posted online. Please refer to these rules and review them in detail. Changes will be posted at the Long Beach Sea Base.
On June 12, 2027, the event will take place from 0730 to 1700 HRS at the Long Beach Sea Base. First day will be an elimination day. At the end of the day the competitors will be divided into two groups by lowest score. The top group will be the International Sea Scout Cup and the second group will sail for the Kiwi Cup. (see race rule)
On June 13, 2027, the second day of racing with be conducted in heats consisting of a number of races involving the International Sea Scout Cup and a number of races involving the Kiwi Cup. Winners of both races will be determined by lowest score, first, second and third. The winner of both races will have their names engraved on the corresponding trophy. The winning crew of the International Sea Scout Cup will also receive a bonus of $2000.00. A sportsmanship award will be awarded to one team that by popular vote is voted the best sports.
On Sunday June 13,2027 there will be an awards ceremony and dinner, venue to be announced from 1900 HRS to 2200 HRS All competitors, staff and interested persons are invited. If you are not a competitor or staff member you must register on seascoutcup.org to attend and pay a fee.
