Sea Scouts from around the world are heading to the California Maritime Academy in the San Francisco Bay area of California, USA, the host of the Sixth Koch Cup. This event is open to young men and women ages 14 to 21 years of age who are registered as Sea Scouts in the United States or registered in a BSA recognized scouting organization in other countries. Two person teams from the US and around the world will test their sailing skills as they race in Flying Junior (FJ’s) sailboats.
Come join the fun. Scouts will get a chance to complete on the very waters that will be host to the best sailors in the world for the America’s Cup Race in 2013. Prizes will be camaraderie, sportsmanship and of course the winning sailors earn the right to have their names permanently engraved on the finest youth sailing trophy in the world. So if you want adventure and a chance to make history, this is your chance.
You can attend this event for one week at a cost of $250.00, which includes your lodging, food, boats, event uniform and everything you need except your transport to the event. Scholarships are available to those teams that can demonstrate economic need. However you must be an expert sailor for this event. Wind conditions and sea conditions can be very tough.
The notice of race and other documents are in the process of being updated on this site. Please read the notice of race and race rules. You must apply online to attend this event. Registration will be open as of July 1, 2011 and close April 1, 2012. U.S. Sea Scouts must attend a preliminary qualification event. However applications will be taken after January 1, 2012 on a first come first serve basis, space available, for teams that can demonstrate they are qualified sailors and did not attend a qualification event. Foreign teams may apply after July 1, 2011 and will be considered on a first come first serve basis. Applications will not be considered until event fee of $250.00 USD is paid. If an application is not accepted a full refund will be made. If applicants withdraw there will be a $25.00 processing fee. After April 1, 2012 no refunds will be made.
The William I. Koch International Sea Scout Cup is funded by a private organization under the control of the William I. Koch International Sea Scout Cup Assn, Inc in cooperation with the Boy Scouts of America National Council.
